# What resolution should an animated GIF have?

What file size is optimal here?

The following also applies to animated GIFs: Remember that the content should be **optimised for mobile devices**. Pay attention to a small file size and compressions if necessary.

**We recommend for animated GIFs**

- a minimum resolution of **800x600 pixels**

- a maximum file size of **5 MB**

**Tips for reducing the file size:**

- Use only necessary frames

- Reduce the resolution

- Save GIFs with less detail (if necessary, use the Websnap setting)

- Use tools to compress finished GIFs more strongly

**Example:**

This GIF with 20 frames and a resolution of 673 x 673 pixels has a file size of 4.7 MB and thus complies with the recommendations.
