Can I translate ovos play content automatically?

With a DeepL licence, you can import ovos play content and automatically translate it into other languages.

Automatic translations require additional configuration. A DeepL account is a requirement. For more information, please contact us.

With the import function provided by ovos play, you can have exported content from ovos play automatically translated by a DeepL integration during import. You can find out how to export ovos play content in the article: How do I export and import ovos play content?

Note: The export function is only available to sysadmins or individualised roles.

Import with translation

Administrators are authorised to import content into ovos play. To do this, go to the Instance settings menu item.

Navigate to

In the Import/Export data tab, you will find the file upload for an ovos play content package. Below this, you will find a list of all imports that have already been carried out with the respective status.

Display of all exports/imports in a list.

Drag and drop your ovos play content package into the file upload field or click on it to select the file.

Once the upload of the content package is complete, a new window opens with the settings options for the import.

A form will be shown where you can choose the content package, source and target language.

The content you import is assigned to the content package you have selected. If you translate the imported content automatically, it is advisable to select a content package that corresponds to the respective language. You can find out how to assign a content package to a language in the article: [BETA] Is it possible create content in multiple languages?

To translate the content, select the source language in which the exported content is written. The manual selection of the source language has a significant influence on the result, as the automatic recognition of the language can lead to errors in the translation, e.g. due to technical terms.

Next, select the target language into which you want to translate the content. All languages supported by DeepL are available.

Click on Start import and the content will be imported and translated. You can see the current status of the import in the list below.

Display of an import that is currently being processed.

As soon as the import is complete, the status is displayed with a green tick and the content can be found in the library. Translated content is always newly created and added to the existing content.

Re-importing the same content

If you have previously exported and imported content, the same content (topics, decks, cards, etc.) will be overwritten. If you translate content into another language, new identification designations are created for the translation.

If you re-import the same content and translate it into the same language again, content that has already been translated will be overwritten and updated. This allows you to update previously translated content with new additions to the original language.
